Doellingeria umbellata | parasol whitetop

Parasol whitetop, also known as flat-topped white aster, is a great summer-blooming species for natural areas and meadow gardens. It occurs in the wild throughout most of the Eastern U.S., growing in moist fields in full sun or part shade. This showy bloomer reaches 3-5’ tall, producing a “flat-topped” cluster of white flowers with yellow central disks that supports several at-risk pollinators in New England and New York. Expect this one to be covered by bees beginning as early as July. This species will spread by self-seeding and underground rhizomes when naturalizing is desired. Formerly Aster umbellatus. Grows in moist or wet soils.
