Polemonium vanbruntiae
Polemonium vanbruntiae | Appalachian Jacobs Ladder
We are lucky to now offer this species, which comes to us from the Catskills area of Ulster County, NY. This beautiful wildflower is native to the northeast, but rare throughout most of it’s range and is considered globally vulnerable. It is locally abundant where these seeds were collected and we hope to see it cultivated in more places! A later-blooming Jacob’s Ladder, this species differs from the more well-known woodland species in a few ways. It’s preference is for a sunny, wet or moist spot (it will grow in wetlands), it flowers in June-July, and it has vibrant purple flowers held on erect stems that can reach 2-3’. A perfect addition to a moist garden!
